Wayne, I agree with Old (seems we usually do, great minds think alike maybe??? lol) whose got ya started down the right track. FIRST thing I would do if the battery has been swapped grounds, is to POLARIZE the genny. Then see if when you turn lights or ignition on when shes NOT running the ammeter swings to - discharge as it should. If it swings over to + charge do as Old was referring to and swap the ammeter leads as its reading bass ackwards. Once its wired correct and you polarize the genny it should swing to - discharge not running but + charge when running if she working n wired correct. Even without an ammeter working she ought to make the lights glow noticeably brighter from idle to wide open if shes charging. John T
