Do you need to replace the shaft, or do you need to rebuild the PTO unit. Is the shaft broke or does it just not work. If you are going to work on it you self, first I would recomend getting a service manual. At most big farm stores, Case IH Dealer??, or very top left on this page. As your second question no it is not hydrostatic. Hydro is sorta like a auto trans. The four bolts on the back are to remove the entire unit, to do this you must drain the rear end fluid or park the front end down hill, on the front side of the unit is a suction pipe that angles down, you must be careful not to damage it. If the unit is not working first check the rearend fluid, dipstick in floor board under steering wheel. Next I would check hyd. pressure to the unit. it has its own pump to engage it and hold it engaged. I still would recomend getting a service manual first. Jim
