I remember a safety poster from shop class in school (although this applies to a lot of things) "I always thought accidents happened to the other guy until I realized that to the other guy I WAS the OTHER GUY!".
I'm kind of suprised that the people hit that roll of steel, that's hard to miss. I guess they were looking at something else or overdriving their lights. We had that happen here although the car got hit as the roll uncoiled.
