OK Chris, this is what you do. Go to your local pet store and pick up a bottle of "Bitter Apple" spray. Spray the items you do not want your dog to chew liberally (make sure it is color safe for fabric). If your dog still persists in chewing your couch, and some will until they really get a taste of the bitter apple, then you may need to spray a couple of squirts right in his mouth, just to convince him he doesn't want to chew anything treated with this solution. He'll act like he has gone rabid; he will foam and slober and do his best to get the taste out out of his mouth. This spray is not harmful to dogs, but it sure is bitter. If he persists, you may need to repeat. He'll catch on. Give him huge praise when he picks a toy or bone to chew on instead of the couch, and instantly admonish his the moment his little teeth touch the couch. You cannot wait until after the action is done. You MUST correct while the unwanted action is taking place. Otherwise, you just ruin a good dog.
