You could always fix up the 1952 unit. It's a much better machine anyhow. A 1952 B has a split pedestal whereas a 1940 B has a solid pedestal. "Split pedestal" means the front end bolts onto the bottom of the steering post. A solid pedestal has the steering post solid from the gearbox at the top to the tires at bottom. If you had a 1939-1946 wide front, you would be able to change out the entire unit with a lot of labor but no mods. However, I'm fairly certain a 1952 will not bolt up to a 1940 without modification and a lot of cussing. In good condition, that wide front is too valuable to do a lot of torching and welding on it. Good luck whatever you do.
