I had a '97 F-150, 4.2L V6, 5 spd. I wouldn't drive another one if it was given to me. 72,000 miles it droped coolant in a cylinder. Bent rod, broken piston and $1,600 later it ran. 100,000 miles a/c goes out. $500 in parts fixed it myself. Lucky no labor that I paid for there. Then, I was in TN and the heater core went out. I just routed around it after finding out it was gonna be $500 labor because you have to take the dash out to change it. 130,000 catalytic or however you spell it stops up. Burns a valve on the right hand side of the block. After that it was parked. It was worthless.
I maintain my vehicles and usually take better care of them than the owner's manual recommends. I just cannot see how I could ever purchase another vechicle from that company. They would not stand behind anything on the truck. Later, after talking to a friend that worked at a blue oval dealer, he explained that Ford had major problems with the engine and was reluctant to do anything to fix vehicles with similar problems. From now on it is GM and Dodge/Chrysler.
