new spark plug wires

I am replacing the spark plug wires on my tractor. This seemed such a simple task.

I can't figure out how to get the terminal ends into the ends of the new wires. The picture with the directions shows the terminal ends easily sliding in to the new wire ends. When I try this, the terminal ends simply bend.

Any ideas?
