Same thing happened to mine. One day clutch wouldn't release. So, I acted on the advice of an old tractor guy who told me to start tractor in 4th gear, drive down the driveway and, after a bit, hit ONE of the brake pedals. The idea was to twist the tractor a little, jar the plates apart. If that didn't work, try running it into a tree. The impact might loosen the plates, too. Well, I didn't have to run it into the tree because the first method worked. Now I place a small block between the clutch pedal and the tractor's frame when not in use. Hasn't happened since. Sure glad I didn't have to resort to plan B.
