One of my old Vo-Tech Teachers had the same problem with his...........He wasn't really a teacher but was hired as a teachers Aid, but was actually better versed in the auto field than the college trained teacher was, anyhow, after hereing what the trained guy had to say and concluded it wasn't the problem, he took the stick and housing out and found a roll pin was broke, it wasn't an actual roll pin, but a Spiral Pin I believe they are call.........Replaced it and it worked fine. I can't remember if it was an NV4500 5 spd or the getrag 5spd. I'd say you have the same problem by the sounds of it.
