Hey Keith, Older than a '99? The big aluminum tranny or the Cast Iron New Process? I know you weren't using an S-10????? At any rate, sounds like it peeled the retainers up in the shift tower; the ring probably just fell off and they dropped out to either side and turned loose of your shifter. Not to worry, a two minute fix after you get the shift cover/boot off. However, if it was a little S-10, that tranny has to about come outta there because it shifts from the rear forward via a shaft.
