mixing oils

just wondering if there is any reason not to mix different types of hydraulic oils such as R&O(rust and oxidizer) mixed with EP(extreme pressure) or AW(anti-wear) hydraulic oils. i was told by a friend that it was not a good idea, but he had no solid reason for it. the dimbulbs at NAPA said that R&O is all they can get now and that seems a bit farfetched. i have EP Super-Trac in my tractors now and am getting a little concerned about possible contamination from different fluids.
