Charging a 6-volt battery

This question makes me feel foolish but here goes...I'm encountering a six volt battery system for the first time with my Ford 841. I first even grounded the negative post! When it comes to charging these 6 volt batteries, do you reverse it for the charger, i.e., put the positive charger clamp to the negative post and vice versa?
