This question makes me feel foolish but here goes...I'm encountering a six volt battery system for the first time with my Ford 841. I first even grounded the negative post! When it comes to charging these 6 volt batteries, do you reverse it for the charger, i.e., put the positive charger clamp to the negative post and vice versa?

sir- if your that unsure on what to do, please get help for your own good. batteries are nothing to fool with, so just step away and ask a friend to help you. batteries can blow up in your face, and you dont want that to happen

I have a very nice Century charger that is all automatic on 12 volts but strictly manual on 6, I got a timer so I can charge for a specific time.

I have a charger that is both a 6 & 12 volt charger. What's odd is that I've attached the charger, left it on for several hours but the meter never shows that it's fully charged. Maybe got a dud battery tractor supply?

Positive is positive is positive. Look at the battery, & hook red to positive post, black to negative.

Battery cables on the tractor don't matter for this. Forget about that.

Coulda messed something up in the relays or generator when you hooked it up wrong, or the battery. Tho usually they can handle a short blip if that's all you did.

dharts, do as Bob told ya and just in case youre unsure of the chargers + or - clamps, the Reds Positive and the Black is Negative by convention. You match the charger to the battery and it dont really matter that a big hunk of iron just happens to be tied onto one of the posts.

Match the polarity of the charger's leads to the polarity of the battery posts. (That should be marked right next to the posts.)

What matters is that the battery and charger are connected with their polarities matching.

It is irrelevant to the CHARGER what the gound polarity of the vehicle or machine is.
