About any generic 12 volt coil having approximately 2.5 to something over 3 ohms primary winding resistnce (between lil + and - terminals) will work provided its a full 12 volt rated coil. I.E. DO NOT get one that is labeled "12 volts for use with an external ballast resistor" cuz thats really a 6 volt coil and you would need to also buy n use an external ballast. You need 12 volts, NO external ballast required. Before buying a coil I would try a much cheaper condensor first, cuz they can go bad once warmed up !!!!!!! If the points were carboned up n burned they can increase resistance with heat and fail also. So if shes not had new points n condensor lately and theres any doubt, I would try that first before a new coil. NO, I doubt Advance Auto can test a coil. They would need a hi pot breakdown tester and I seriously doubt they have one. To really test a coil you need to get it up to operatign temperature and then have high voltage present cuz its the high voltage secondary that can fail. Are you sure its the ignition thats quitting instead of fuel starvation??? John T, retired electrical engineer.

At one time I had seven restored examples which were shown and used in ploughing matches. As most restorers, I have a number of war stories I can relate on a range of topics that may help other like minded and interested people. Perhaps my first p
