Some trailers are wired with a horse trailer setup vs a RV wiring setup. There are adapters that can convert one setup to the other. Or you can change the wiring setup on the trailer plug. Several sites on the internet show the different wiring setups, adapters and conversions. As for the lost power to the plug, trucks normally use a seperate wiring circuit to power the trailer through relays. Under the hood, there should be a box holding the relays and fuses for that circuit.
