O/T 307 Olds engine experts

Looks like I might need to change the timing gears and chain. Its in an 87 Caprice. I"ve opened a few 305"s but this is a different engine altogether. Just wondering if I"m in for any nasty suprises or rude awakenings with this motor or not. I just put new intake gaskets in it and changed the water pump a few years ago, those went well, Or at least with only the usual quota of bad language. Car left me on the side of the road. Got fuel and spark so I pulled the cap and it looks to be about 22 degrees off. Any and all help appreciated. Thanks
