Scrap manure spreader as utility trailer?

At the scrap yard today I saw a manure spreader someone had turned in. It has good tires and what appears to be strong tin, though the wooden floor is shot and one of the chains underneath has parted. The PTO shaft is intact. If the beaters were removed and the sides braced, would it self-unload by PTO action to any extent when loaded with firewood or gravel? Do many of you use spreaders for firewood, or are there better tractor trailers available for bush work nowadays? What would be a reasonable price for this "beater" if it has been scrapped?
