I had the same problems w/ both our 1855 Oliver deisel and our Skag lawnmower w/ Kawasaki engine. The kawasaki needed a new air filter. I cleaned the old one but it wasn't enough. The 1855 needed a fuel filter. It's gotta be either fuel or air related, not getting enough of one or the other. What color is the exhuast? If it's really rich/black, it's not getting enough air. I assume it's a dry paper elemnet type, like the kawasaki engine on ours is. Cleaning them only works once or twice, then the filter just gets too clogged to pull air through.
