Pretty small tractor for 7 shanks, unless you are not going very deep, or are in sandy soil. I agree with the recommendations to use 5 shanks. I pulled 5 spike shanks 8-10 deep with the JD 830 which showed 85 bhp on the dyno, and that was enough load. Tried 7 and the going was very slow. I'm sure the load would be significantly increased, if 3-4 inch twists were on rather than the spikes. We pulled eleven shanks 9-10 inches deep using 180 bhp, and the tractor had to work pretty hard. In years past, we plowed everything. Since that time (which is still a long time ago) dad and the younger brother went to no-till. I'm back in the saddle (not the home place, but my own) and was completely surprised how much power it requires to pull a chisel, hence the demise of using the JD830. My recommendation would be to go for at least 110 to 120 bhp. A JD4320 would be a nice addition, although a little overkill for 12ft stuff. Could you reasonably rent a bigger tractor?
