not sure one the advantages and disadvantages of the shielders, but do know from expirence that a lincoln electric mig welder is most likly of better quality. i had the oppertuntity to see a miller mig torn apart, and a good many of the bushings inside the machine are wood, an i just wasnt impressed with the inside quality.

how thick of material are you planning on welding? last i checked, thickest the manufacture reccomeded was 5/8 inch for any mig
