The braided ground straps work very well for 6 volt systems, and they are available, but now getting a little pricy. It seems as tho I paid around $10.00 each for two of them a while back. As for the negative side cable (pos ground), the heavier, the better. 1 gauge or 0 gauge, but no smaller than 1 gauge. I found a piece of 0 gauge welder cable that works great. The secret to any cable is to use soldered ends, as that way you are getting a full flow of current through the entire cable rather than just the outside strands.
