Tlak, I think it's pretty clear what side of the fence I'm on. In reality we've been there since Desert storm. WMD was just one of the reasons we went, and yes Saddam did have them at one time. Remember the Kurds? Women and children gassed in their own villages by the hundreds (thousands?). Saddam did not abide by the conditions set forth in the UN resolutions he agreed to. Then he played his games and it backfired on him.
As for "Going to war with what you have", I've said it before and I'll say it again. The Hummer was a replacement for the M151 series Jeep and 880 and 1010 series 5/4 ton pickup trucks, NONE of which had any armour at all. The Hummers were not either except for a MP and Marine version which had very light kevlar ballistic protection. Tactics of the enemy changed and so did the Hummer. The suspension and drive train had to be reengineered to handle the new weight. How fast do you think you could engineer and mass produce a new vehicle? Most people don't realize it, but the Sherman tank was the Hummer of WWII. It was under armoured and under gunned and thousand of soldiers died in them. But they were mass produced and the vast numbers and subsequent redesigns helped win the war. The body armour has been redesigned and they will be issuing the 3rd model of armour in the coming weeks.
Name a war that did'nt see new equipment and tactics develop while the war was in progress. My personal opinion is the soldier who questioned Rumsfeld should have been articled 15 for conduct unbecoming. When you have a need in the field you adapt and overcome. If that means scrounging scrap metal from a dump, then so be it. The soldiers at valley forge made do with what they had, so did the 101st in the battle of the bulge and so on.
You think Colin Powell was lied to or overridden? Based on what? Your opinion? Well you're entitled to that but it does'nt make it fact. The vast majority of soldiers over there believe in the mission and know they are doing the right thing.

Today's Featured Article - The Day Mom Drove the 8N - by Brian Browning. My Dad was wanting to put in a garden but couldn't operate the 8N and handle the old horse drawn plow he had found and rigged up to use with the tractor. Well, he decided to go get Mom out of the house and have her drive the tractor while he walked behind the plow. You got to understand that while my Mom is a hard worker who will always help whenever she can... she had never operated farm machinery before that day. Dad got her out there, explained how the clutch was the same as in our o ... [Read Article]
