are you talking about the gear on the starter? if so there should be 2 bolts (maybe 3) that hold the starter on the engine remove them . remove starter find and drive out small pin on end of shaft that holds the gear on. remove gear paying attention to order in which the washer(s) spring , and gaer come off. reassemble with new gear and that should do it. it would n't hurt to remove the ground cable from the battery during this procedure ( just in case the key is bumped)
