First thing I'd do is to see if the pump is a pumpin. (Going out to the shop and get my manual so I can give you an accurate answer. Be right back) I'm back. Grin Per my I&T service manual, for the piston pump (most common) remove the hex drive pipe plug from the rear top of the pump and insert a 0-4000 or so pressure gauge. Turn her on and run her up to 1650 rpm's. Pressure should follow rpms up to 2500 and level off, due to the pressure release valve (located elsewhere). If it doesn't, you are probably fluid starved meaning you have a clog inside the sump. Ford used an inlet screen and a paper return filter for their early hyd filtering. Wouldn't think your pump was out but you didn't give me much info to understand the history of your loss of lift. If it was abrupt you may have sheared the gear holding pin on the pump's input drive gear or something like that. A clogging filter and/or wearing out pump would be gradual things. If that doesn't fix it you can go to the Ford archives and look up tons of yakin on hyd systems or go to your NH dealer and get the I&T Manual FO-31 which does a pretty good job of telling you all about what's in the system.
