Former coworker used to drive to work in a Mazda diesel pickup- got about 30/35 MPG mostly around town. Younger brother drives a 80's Ford Escort diesel in summer- getting 45/50 on country roads. These are about 2 liter engines. New pickups discussed are 5.9 to 7.3 liter engines? Market choice, buy what you feel comfortable with for whatever you use it for. Australian economy race event noted Daihatsu(sic?) van 2 or 3 cylinder diesel about 1+ liter was getting 60 to 75 MPG-25/30KM per liter. VW new 1.8 liter turbo diesel sedan advertised as getting 60MPG EPA estimate hiway, car section Popular Science test showed they actually were getting about that. Mercedes 2.8 and 3 liter diesels in car and light trucks get 25/30 MPG. There may be a lesson here. RN
