I bought my 1996 cummins a little over a year ago. My son's friend has a 96 cummins auto 4 wheel drive and pulls 34000# on a regular basis. I'd guess your neighbor and one of mine would have the tranny on the ground in a couple of weeks, unless they drove it like this successful owner does. He doesn't drive with his toe nails clicking on the fan most of the time while going through the gears. My 2 cents.
