I had a '98 Dodge 2500 with 360 and automatic. It was an all right truck, but I did have a tranny failure at about 102,000. Then it failed again 14,000 miles later. I had it fixed again and it started making noises in reverse after another 15,000 miles.

The 360 struggled under a bid load (ie my 12' slide-in camper) so I sold the truck and bought a Chevy 3500 dually with 7.4L gas and automatic. It handles the camper 100% better. I can even go down the freeway at 70 mph in overdrive. The Dodge would not handle the camper in overdrive, always had to shift down to D. I think a big part of the problem was rear end ratio. The Dodge had 3.73 gears and the Chevy has 4.10.

Buy the truck that will do the job you need done and you'll be lots happier in the long run than if you save a few thousand and get a truck that can't quite do the job.
