It's really not much different than restoring it to exact factory condition, then painting with with a modern paint with hardener, clear coat, etc. In fact, it's probably easier to convert it back to 6 volts if desired than it would be to strip that non-original paint and repaint it with enamel.

In either case, though, I don't see how it's a problem for you. It's kinda like sayin' "Gee, I can't believe alla you fellers that married blondes when you know brunettes are sexier".
