It wasn't that Dad was cheap it was because e were generally short on cash. But we never bought fence stays, steel posts or new wire. We made stays by cutting the right length of wire and wrapping it on by hand, cut most all our own cedar posts. And one time when the County was doing a road realignment we rolled up a mile of four wire fence and pulled all the good steel posts and didn't charge them a dime. Course we did it all between 10PM and 3AM. When the crew showed up for work the next day all their work was done!!! They would just wad everything up and haul it to the dump anyway.
