Old trucks

I just thought I'd pass this along to those who use some of the older trucks. I happened on a 57 Chevy dump the other day. Guy was hauling slab wood. As I was looking the truck over I noticed the duals on both sides were rubbing together at the bulge at the bottom. This is a clear out of service violation. I thought he was way over loaded at first, but after talking to him I found the answer. The original tires on the Budd type rims were 8.25 or 8.50x20's. Hard to believe but the driver couldn't find any of that size laying around so he used 9.00x20's, which BTW were so cracked the cords were showing through the rubber. There just wasn't room for all that tire on those rims. Just something to keep in mind.
