Just doesn't sound right. "He looked at the hay". Sounds kind of like a cry baby to me. He sounds like a good friend that I would never deal with--nothing is ever right. I think you called it. You sound to nice to tell him to go jump. Give him his money back and go get the hay. Under no conditions give him a reduction or reduce the price, or trade hay with him. That would be playing his game. Never sell to him again.
