I don't know why it wouldn't work, as long as you don't add lots of extra bends and increase back pressure. I've got a 574 utility, thought about doing this, but with low brush & branches, I finally decided it was better where it is.It's been there since '75 when I bought it new. Also, other tractors i've had and used with vertical muffler, when on the highway really "blowing the carbon out", it seems I get a lot of it in my eyes. Never had that happen on the 574.
