Backfires and runs like the choke is "ON". You mean it smokes from too much gas? Back fire is usually from too lean. If too lean look at float height and restrictions in gas flow. If too rich, look at air filter and restrictions in the air flow.
Orange spark could be weak. I have had small engine coils get damp and reduce their spark. Lay then out in hot sun for a week. BTW, that coil is priced at about $124.00... I needed one last year. Bought a junker engine to get one.
My first advice is to get another spark plug. Could very well be that.
