7018 is a very high tensil strength rod, but your metal needs to be very clean. Rust, even surface rust, will get into the welds and cause weakness. Also, the 7018 and 14 are not very good all position rods. I agree, old, they are very good rods when used in the right application. For old pipe or sucker rod etc, 6010 or 6011 would still be my choice.
