Usually the term "blow-by" refers to the compression lost around the rings in the cylinder. This lost compression goes in the crankcase.It's most noticed when engine is running with oil fill cap off,or dipstick removed.It considered by a lot of folks to be an indicator of the condition of the engine,meaning a rebuild is in the forseeable future of the engine. Not necessarily the imediate future,depends on how bad it is.On car engines,it's usually routed via a pcv valve(positive crankcase ventilation),back into the intake to be burned again. However,on a lot of tractors,it's discharged ,throgh a downtube, into the atmosphere.Hope this helps.
