Have a W4 that had no compression on #2. Pulled head and everything looked good. At this time I felt good maybe just a set of rings to cure smoking. Looking closer 3up and one down, the pistons should be 2 up and 2 down. My problem was that the top of # 2 piston was broken off and just setting there. The connecting rod was only riding on the wrist pin bosses and did not hurt sleeve. Engine would run smooth, lacked some power but smoked like a train sometimes. Check and make sure # 4 is moving.
