Like the others said, balance the weight on the trailer axles, slighly ahead of them. Some hitches will hold 500 lbs tongue weight, maybe more. But I've always shot not to excede 350 lbs myself, and that's slightly on the heavy side. Tongue weight is to keep the trailer safely down on the hitch, no more than that. Your pickup may be rated at a 1 ton dually, but that doesn't mean it has to carry it. Let them trailer axles and bearings work the load for you and your pickup, not the other way around. You and your truck do the steering and lead the brakes, otherwise you're both working to hard. Mark
