Dad was from Kansas. He said one of his cousins bought a few xections one year and planted it to wheat. Had an exceptionly wet year so he planted wheat the following year instead of laying fallow and paid for the ground.

He had an uncle who kept buying ground in Ok. ended up with over 100 sections, 3 towns, grain mills etc. All so that his wifes family could fight about it and cut his side of the family out(no kids). Dads side put up a fight and finaly dad got 1/4 share in 4 or 5 sections approx $180,000 if I remember right. Sure was a nasty fight by people who probably didn't give the old man the time of day.
