Woods L59 under Farmall A

I've been mowing with my '46 A and woods belly mower for over 10 years. Last year the belt finally threw in the towell so I bought another-Woods 4152. It went on with a fight-it took hours and seemed unreasonably tight. The old one was so stretched out that I could put it on and off with no troubled and always worked fine. Started the tractor and didn't make one loop the belt rolled! Wrestled with the thing again-belt rolled again. Please help! Does anyone have any suggestions on how to get the belt on and adjusted. I've moved the mower around and adjusted the height of the pullies, etc. Thanks for any info. Tara
