Huw: I had an opertunity to operate two different Kubota tractors. First one was a 6950, I think around 70 hp. I forget model number on 2nd one 85XX, and I understand it was about 90 hp. Both these tractors were 4x4. I probably put about 600 hours on each of these tractors. I must say I was quite impressed. The manuverability for that size of 4x4 was truly amazing. They both seemed to have the rated hp as advertized, transmissions were convenient to use and had good speed selection. Hydraulics worked well on both. Now that is quite a testimonial from a dyed in wool IH man. I guess what I'm telling you is these tractors from a handling and operation point of view, came as close to the old IH 06, 26 and 56 series, as anything I've operated. Your right not a lot of sophisticated electronic gadgets either. I have also operated both new CaseIH as well as John Deere, neither of which impress me as much as the Kubota. I do know Kubota had problems with sheet metal on the older 6950 models. It seemed to rust under the paint and tractors tended to look quite shabby even at 5-10 years of age. I think this problem has been cured. Would I buy one? Definately, if I were still farming and the price was competive. Mind you competive could be 5% to 10% higher than anything else I've operated new in the past 10 years.
