Gear shift on White 120

My cousin & I were helping an 81 yr. old uncle put away some machinery with his White 120. After backing the tractor in R1, my cousin attempted to put it into Park, but the shift lever would only go half the way up the slot.... resulting in the tractor being stuck in 6th gear. The gear lever will not move. My uncle"s really mad, because "us kids" broke his tractor. (My cousin is 57 and I"m 49 !?!?!) Thanks for any help, Tom
