Since the tractor has been converted to 12 volts, it is (probably) now negative ground. The negative lead from the coil should be connected to the distributor point set. The positive lead should be connected to the ignition switch, preferably through a resistor.

(If for some reason the tractor is positive ground, then the positive lead goes to the distributor. Unconverted 6 volt tractors are positive ground, but are normally converted to negative ground when a 12 volt alternator is installed.)

Positive or negative ground, neither side of the coil should be connected directly to ground. The coil is always grounded through the points.
