Sounds like eliminating the food source could be a good way to go. Unfortunately we couldn't consider this option because there were too many trees. Alternative is to live trap them and move to another site, although on occasion we have had to resort to the last option you mentioned. Trapping can be tricky and most states require a permit. Best plan is to find an experienced live trapper.
