I had three tresspassers openfire on a "hen" pheasant flying towards my car. I had shot damage from one end to the other, I was on a public highway, and still had shot embedded under the vinyl on the car top when the sheriff showed up. Unfortunately they missed the bird, that would have gotten them fined. As it was no law had been broken and all I could do was sue for the damage of the car which I did not do, as I don't have enough time to screw with it. When I got out of their prized bag for the day, very angry, the only response from the trio was "Couldn't you see we were hunting?!?!" Nothing gets the pucker factor like three twelve guages blowing fire your way.
