I have a 1947 Farmall A with a 12 volt system. The engine starts and runs well for about 4-5 minutes, but then steadly runs worse and worse, then stops. After waiting for an hour, it runs fine for a few minutes again. A timing light hooked up to the magneto wire that runs to the center of the dist cap proves that it is skipping irratically and gets gradually worse. I have installed new Champion plugs, new cap, rotor, points, wires and ends, and replaced the condensor. The points are set at .018 and the plugs gapped to .025. I get a bright white spark at the points when I spin the magneto by hand when it is out. Ignition timing is "spot on" at TDC as per the manual. Can the magneto winding work well when cold, then die out when warmed up for only 4-5 min?
