Looking for a JD

I am trying to track down a JD 4030 that my family owned at one time, but I do not have the serial. A local dealer has one just like we had on his lot, but with no SN I do not know if it is the one. How can I find the SN? I know where it was bought new, and the dealer is still there. Would he have the number by any chance? Thanks for any ideas!
