They dropped the old combine design for the same reason they dropped the 2 cylinder tractor... It had reached the limits of it's abilities. To keep up with everyone else, they had to go a different direction.

Deere has been "global" long before any other manufacturers. That's why they survived, and all the others are now foreign owned shells of what once was. By staying a viable business, they are doing more to support farmers than companies that constantly change ownership. When I walk in to plunk down a quarter million on a new combine, I'd like to know the maker will be around long enough to see it through its years with me. Deere has long history of making good business moves. THAT is their responsibility to their share-holders, their customers, and to the general public, who buys the products PRODUCED by their equipment.

A good investment is more than the actual physical item... It's about the support of that item throughout it's lifespan. All the rest of the farm equipment industry is just one MORE merger from disappearing at any moment.

I'll stick with a PROVEN WINNER.....
