Most have a small hole through the brush holder and rear alternator case so a stiff wire can be inserted to hold the brushes in the holder untill the alternator is assembled. Dont forget to pull that wire out before you test/install the alternator. The wire will cause a dead short across the brushes which will destroy the voltage regulator the instant you turn on the ignition. Been there......Done that :)
