Ford 5640

I have a Ford 560 with 4500 hours. The tractor will no longer shift into Forward gears although reverse and neutral work. One individual has told that probably a "synchro" gear for the Forward / Reverse has gone bad and that this can be replaced from the front of the transmission if I break the tractor. Can anyone comment on this. I have tried adjusting the shifting linkage with no results. Also, I"m looking for a repair manual for the same tractor...any suggestions as to where to get one?
