9N was first. 2N was wartime version. 3 speed, steering by bevel gears so they can kick worse than a mule.

9N production began in 1939, 2N in 1942, 8N in 1948.

8N has 4 speeds forward and a ball work steering gear that doesn't kick near as much as the previous N tractors.

They have a front mount distributor on the front of the camshaft behind the fan. Hard to work on, except the last year of the 8N which has a side mount distributor.

Light work is all they will do.
